The Green Transport Transition is happening in the city of Sydney as a part of The Vision for 2020 and the sustainability of the inner city and it's endeavour to reduce it's green house emissions. Sydney is fast becoming predominantly a Green public transport hub. With the introduction of the new light rail system to circular quay. The city boasts pushbike lanes, buses, taxis and with the introduction of the light rail, a dynamic mitigation strategy is in the process of being implemented.
Thru comparison with the City of San Francisco and the review of this Climate Action Strategy, Sydney is implementing many of the strategies that their city is only just identifying with. San Francisco struggles with commuter time demands and transport inefficiencies . Mitigation strategies implemented include metered parking and restricted car movements within the centre, the introduction of electric taxi's and commuter incentive's for car pooler's in the form of parking price reduction and commuter benefits for public transport utilisers. |
The following identifies the recommendations in Green Transport that Sydney should implement as a strategy for reducing green house emissions and as a mitigation strategy for climate change:
Electric Car- ShuttlesIn the short term city taxi's need to be converted to electric modes of transport and the city needs to strategically locate recharging stations for their idol time use. In the long term these station can be transitioned for utilisation by smaller golf buggy style shuttles that can accommodated the transportation of the elderly and disabled, who are not physically abled to mange the light rail network.

Bike stationsSydney has created and dynamic network of bike infrastructure within the city, but the complaint from the community is it's lack of use. A recommendation to the city is the expansion of the service by offering push bike hire where pick up and drop off points can be established. Easy access to these bikes by a simple credit card facility which would unlock the bike from its station and as the bike is put back at another station around the city the credit card can be charged or credited depending on the length of use. It would be a simple matter of the people bringing and using there own helmets for protection.
