City of Mokpo
The City of Mokpo is located on the south western tip of the South Korean peninsula .It is a port city strategically located between mainland China and Nagasaki, Japan at the throat of the Yellow Sea.
South korea is bordered by coastlines on 3 of its boundaries and therefore has adapted it’s economic growth, development and sustainability around the utilization of this asset.
Like Sydney ,Mokpo is an old port city and commercial hub consisting of tidal flats and low hills.
Mokpo has spent the last 100 Years reclaiming 60% of it’s total land area from the sea, trying to transition the old port city into an economically viable hub to attract government input,a growing industrialized market and tourism.
Mokpo and Sydney are located at similar latitudes , in opposite hemispheres from the equator which would put them into similar temperatures zones and would expose them to similar climatic conditions.
Like Sydney,Mokpo is also located at the entrance to a major inland river ,the Yeongsan River, and in combinations with the 13 smaller islands surrounding it’s southern coast line ,a natural seawall is created forming safe harbour.
